Gourmet Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of diced bacon
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 3/4 cup of frozen unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
  • 6 tablespoons of maple syrup (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Cook the diced bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until brown and crispy (approximately 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat and transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. In a large bowl, combine bacon, flour, cheese, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Grate the frozen butter into the mixture using the large holes of a box grater. Stir well to incorporate.
  4. Whisk together buttermilk and 4 tablespoons of maple syrup in a medium bowl. Add the mixture to the flour mixture, stirring with a rubber spatula until a soft dough forms.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Roll the dough into a 1 1/4-inch thick rectangle and cut out 12 rounds using a 2 to 2 1/2-inch biscuit or cookie cutter. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and transfer it to the freezer for 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the biscuits from the freezer and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and melted butter in a small bowl. Serve the biscuits warm, brushing them with the maple-butter mixture.
