Savory Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 12 large cabbage leaves
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Blanch the cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cooked rice, ground beef, ground pork, diced onion, egg, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place a portion of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf around the filling, ensuring ends are tucked.
  4. Arrange the rolls seam side down in a baking dish.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls.
  6. Cover the baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 1 hour or until the meat is thoroughly cooked.
