Loaded Tater Tots with Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

For the Tater Tots:

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (480ml) milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup (100g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Preparation

  1. Bake the Tater Tots:

    • Preheat your oven as per the tater tot package instructions.
    • Spread the tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake until crispy, following the package instructions. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
  2. Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

    • In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it into crumbles with a spatula.
    • Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
    • Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce the heat to low and keep the gravy warm.
  3. Assemble the Loaded Tater Tots:

    • Once the tater tots are baked and crispy, transfer them to a large serving dish or individual bowls.
    • Pour the sausage gravy over the top of the tater tots.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the gravy.
    • Garnish with sliced green onions.
  4. Serve:

    • Serve immediately while the tater tots are hot and the cheese is melted.
