Gourmet Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of diced bacon
- 4 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 3/4 cup of frozen unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
- 6 tablespoons of maple syrup (divided)
- 2 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Cook the diced bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until brown and crispy (approximately 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat and transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a large bowl, combine bacon, flour, cheese, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Grate the frozen butter into the mixture using the large holes of a box grater. Stir well to incorporate.
- Whisk together buttermilk and 4 tablespoons of maple syrup in a medium bowl. Add the mixture to the flour mixture, stirring with a rubber spatula until a soft dough forms.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Roll the dough into a 1 1/4-inch thick rectangle and cut out 12 rounds using a 2 to 2 1/2-inch biscuit or cookie cutter. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and transfer it to the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the biscuits from the freezer and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and melted butter in a small bowl. Serve the biscuits warm, brushing them with the maple-butter mixture.
