Crispy Southern Deep Fried Lobster
Southern Deep Fried Lobster
Ingredients:
- 2 whole lobsters (about 1-1.5 lbs each), cleaned and cut into large pieces
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil recommended)
Directions:
- In a large bowl, soak the lobster pieces in buttermilk for about 30 minutes to tenderize the meat.
- In another bowl, mix together the flour, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Remove the lobster pieces from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture until well coated.
- Carefully place the coated lobster pieces into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, cooking until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried lobster onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces, such as remoulade, cocktail sauce, or a simple squeeze of lemon.
