Succulent Braised Oxtails Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 pounds of beef oxtails
  • 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon of freshly cracked or ground black pepper
  • 3/4 cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 cups of beef broth
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks of celery, sliced
  • 1 bay leaf

Directions:

  1. Begin by seasoning the oxtails with salt and pepper, then generously coat them in flour, ensuring to shake off any excess.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the oxtails and sear them until nicely browned on all sides. Set aside the browned oxtails.
  3. In the same pot, add the sliced onion, minced garlic, carrots, and celery, sautéing until they become tender and fragrant.
  4. Return the seared oxtails to the pot, then pour in the Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and add the bay leaf. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  5. Cover the pot and let the oxtails braise for 2-3 hours, or until the meat is incredibly tender and easily falls off the bone. Remember to remove the bay leaf before serving.
