Perfectly Crispy Southern Fried Chicken
Perfectly Crispy Southern Fried Chicken
Ingredients:
- 4 chicken thighs
- 4 chicken drumsticks
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
- Begin by marinating the chicken pieces in buttermilk in a large bowl, ensuring they are fully coated. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to tenderize the meat.
- In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. This seasoned flour mixture will provide the chicken with its deliciously crispy coating.
- After the marinating time, remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C), ensuring there’s enough oil to fully submerge the chicken pieces.
- Carefully place the coated chicken into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the fryer. Fry for approximately 15-18 minutes, or until the chicken reaches a golden brown hue and is fully cooked through.
- Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving, ensuring maximum juiciness and flavor.
