Homemade Pita Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 100 milligrams of white sugar
  • 1 scoop of yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1.5 teaspoons of table salt
  • 6.76 ounces (approximately 3/4 cup) of milk
  • 10.58 ounces (approximately 1/4 cup) of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of dehydrated yeast

Preparation

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the oil, sugar, and salt. Once the sugar and salt have dissolved, add the yogurt and warm milk, stirring until well combined.
  2. Add Yeast and Flour: Gradually add the flour and yeast to the wet ingredients, mixing thoroughly until the dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough for 4-5 minutes until it becomes smooth, elastic, and non-sticky.
  4. Let Dough Rise: Allow the dough to rise for about 20 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough: Gently deflate the dough and place it on a floured surface. Divide it into 12 equal portions, rolling each into a ball.
  6. Roll Out the Dough: Using a rolling pin, flatten each ball into a small circle. Place the circles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover them with a tea towel.
  7. Bake the Pitas: Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F). Bake the pita bread for 6 minutes until they are puffed and slightly golden.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the pita bread to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the fluffy and toasted goodness of freshly baked pita bread.

Air Fryer Method

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Pitas: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil.
  3. Air Fry the Pitas: Place the flattened dough discs in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the pitas are puffy and golden brown. Adjust the cooking time based on your air fryer’s model.
  4. Cool and Serve: Remove the pitas from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
  5. Repeat: Repeat the steps with the remaining dough until all pitas are cooked.

Enjoy your homemade pita bread, whether baked traditionally or in an air fryer!
