Mastering the Art of Crafting Fluffy Doughnuts: A Beginner’s Guide

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup of milk or water
  • 3 ½ tablespoons of softened unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of active dried yeast
  • ¼ cup of sugar

Instructions:

Step 1:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk (or water), sugar, salt, yeast, and egg. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Add the softened unsalted butter and flour to the mixture. Blend until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a clean surface and knead by hand for 6 minutes until it becomes soft and smooth.
  4. If needed, add a little water to the dough and knead for a few more minutes.
  5. Cover the dough in a bowl and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 2:

  1. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
  2. Take each portion, degas the dough, and shape it into small round balls by tucking the edges towards the center.
  3. Place the dough balls in a bowl, cover, and let them rest for another 15 minutes.

Step 3:

  1. Flatten each dough ball slightly by pressing on top.
  2. Use your thumb to gently press the middle of the dough to form a small hole, then widen the hole with your fingers to shape the doughnuts.
  3. Place the shaped doughnuts on a parchment-lined baking tray and allow them to rest again.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer and fry the doughnuts until they are golden brown.
  5. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.
